Breathing Space is a UK breathwork school that began in 2017 as donation-based sessions in a church hall in Exeter. It was started by Benedict Beaumont, a former IT professional and secondary school teacher who had burned out, and Jennifer Nolan, a registered nurse in the NHS. Beaumont first tried breathwork in 2014 and says he took a facilitator training soon after, then felt unsupported once it ended. His bio does not name that training.

Since then, Breathing Space has grown into an online school and community. It says hundreds of students have trained as facilitators with it, and it is listed by the Global Professional Breathwork Alliance (GPBA) as a certified school. Its training is delivered by Beaumont and a team of Breathing Space teachers, some of whom run the apprenticeship under their own names. The Mindful Soul in London is one of them.

We think this is one of the best-value routes to a GPBA-certified 400-hour qualification in the UK, with a community and an accessibility policy that most schools cannot match. The catch is that it is almost entirely online, and the school does not publish how many supervised sessions you need to certify.

How the Training Works

The training is built in stackable levels:

  • Level 1, Breathwork Coach (50 hours): a 12-week, self-paced online course for £500, which counts as Unit 1 of the facilitator training
  • Level 2, Breathwork Facilitator (400 hours): the main certification, covered in this review
  • Level 3, Teacher and Mentor (800 hours) and Level 4, “Breathwork Therapist” (1,000 hours): advanced pathways for graduates

The 400 hours break down into the 50-hour coach unit, a 300-hour core unit, and a 50-hour practicum. The curriculum covers conscious connected breathing and more than 20 other techniques, nervous system science, trauma-informed practice, session design for one-to-one, group, and online work, ethics and scope of practice, and a unit called The Business of Breath on ethical marketing, client management, and building a business plan. The school says the curriculum was designed by professional teachers and nurses.

There are two ways through it:

  • Online group training: a 10-month cohort with live seminars every other Monday, at either midday or 7pm UK time. There are two intakes a year; the next start on November 2, 2026 and April 6, 2027. Cohorts are kept small, though the school does not give a number.
  • Individual apprenticeship: the same 400-hour curriculum at your own pace, with a qualified Breathing Space teacher or with Beaumont himself.

Everyone has a 30-minute discovery call before joining.

Practice and Certification

The practicum unit includes “supervised practice sessions, case studies and reflection,” practice and assessment checklists, and a final assessment. The school does not say how many sessions or case studies you need.

That matters, because supervised practice is what separates a 400-hour certification from a long course. Comparable schools spell it out: the AIR School of Breathwork and Clarity Breathwork both require 30 client sessions. Ask Breathing Space for the exact numbers before you enroll.

The training is also almost entirely online. The school runs retreats in Devon, and its curriculum page says some teachers combine online learning with in-person retreats, but in-person time is not a requirement for the group cohort.

Breathing Space Cost

Route Paid up front Payment plan total
Online group training (November 2026 intake) £2,700 ($3,700) £3,000 ($4,000), 10 x £300
Online group training (from 2027)   £3,750 ($5,000)
Apprenticeship with a Breathing Space teacher £3,375 ($4,320) £3,750 ($4,800)
Apprenticeship with Benedict Beaumont £4,500 ($5,715) £5,000 ($6,350)

The group training offers bursary places at 20% off, extended payment plans, and further discounts for marginalised communities. The apprenticeship has no bursaries. The November 2026 intake is the last at the current group price, which rises by 25% in 2027.

At the current price, this is the lowest cost we have found for a GPBA-certified 400-hour training in the UK. From 2027 it will cost a little more than AIR’s all-online route (about £3,100 over two years), and far less than residential routes.

Things to Know

The teacher you get matters. Apprenticeships and some cohorts are led by teachers in the Breathing Space network rather than by the founder, and the curriculum page notes that the live schedule depends on the teacher. Ask who will lead your cohort or apprenticeship and how long they have been teaching.

“Breathwork Therapist” is a strong title. The 1,000-hour Level 4 carries this name. Breathwork is unregulated in the UK, but “therapist” suggests clinical training that a breathwork course does not provide.

We found no independent reviews. Beyond the school’s own testimonials and a few podcast interviews with Beaumont, there is no independent feedback we could find.

Pros and Cons

What works well

  • Strong value - A GPBA-certified 400 hours from £2,700, with bursaries and payment plans.
  • Business teaching included - Marketing, client management, and a business plan.
  • Strong community - Free weekly sessions, two intakes a year, and a large graduate network.
  • Flexible formats - Live cohort or self-paced apprenticeship.

What doesn't

  • Practice not quantified - No published number of supervised sessions or case studies.
  • Almost entirely online - No required in-person training.
  • Teacher quality varies - Much of the teaching is done by network teachers.
  • Price rising - The group fee goes up 25% in 2027.

Breathing Space Market Comparisons

Breathing Space vs. AIR School of Breathwork

AIR is the other GPBA-recognized UK option, a two-year Rebirthing diploma for about £3,100 to £5,550 with residential modules in Devon and France and 30 paid client sessions. Choose AIR for in-person options, a clearly defined client requirement, and a spiritual Rebirthing framework. Choose Breathing Space for a lower price, a 10-month timeline, and business teaching.

Breathing Space vs. Clarity Breathwork

Clarity Breathwork also offers a GPBA-certified 400-hour path that can be done mostly online, from $4,085 for Levels 1 to 4, with 30 client sessions. Choose Clarity for a longer-established school and a defined practice requirement. Choose Breathing Space for live UK-time cohorts and a lower total price.

Breathing Space vs. Integrative Breath

Integrative Breath is a small, mentored, GPBA-certified training for $4,000 tuition, mostly online with a seven-day retreat in Colorado. Choose Integrative Breath for a residential week and a strong guest faculty. Choose Breathing Space if you want to stay online and pay less.

Who This Is For

  • UK career changers on a budget - You want a GPBA-certified qualification without residential costs.
  • People who need flexibility - Evening cohorts or a self-paced apprenticeship.
  • Community-minded facilitators - You want an ongoing network after you qualify.

Who Should Pass

Breathing Space Verdict

Breathing Space has grown from a church hall in Exeter into a school with hundreds of graduates, two intakes a year, and a GPBA-certified 400-hour training that currently costs less than any comparable option we have found in the UK. The business unit, the accessibility policy, and the community around it are real strengths.

The questions are about depth of practice. The training is almost entirely online, the number of supervised sessions is not published, and much of the teaching is done by network teachers whose experience will vary.

Bottom line: One of the best-value GPBA routes in the UK if you are comfortable learning online. Ask who will teach you and exactly how many supervised sessions you need, and book before the 2027 price rise if cost matters.
