Embodied Breath Academy Practitioner Training Review (2026)
Embodied Breath Academy review. The Rebirthing-rooted 200-hour and 400-hour practitioner pathway, the AU$5,500 online price, and the safety caveats.
The Embodied Breath Academy (EBA) is a breathwork school run from Bali by founder and head teacher Karina Kalilah, with two senior teachers based in Sydney. Kalilah says she has worked as a breathwork practitioner since 2016 and relaunched the academy in its current form in November 2020. She credits Suntara Daniel Coates as her Rebirthing teacher, Leonard Orr as the creator of the method, and Dr. Scott Lyons for her training in trauma and somatics. In a recorded masterclass, she describes herself as a former high school teacher and yoga teacher, which fits the school’s description of its teachers as “university-trained educators.”
The school teaches Embodied Breathwork, its own adaptation of Rebirthing Breathwork: conscious connected breathing through the nose, combined with parts work, belief-system work, somatic awareness, sound, and music. The tone is openly spiritual. The training page promises to connect you to “YOUR SPIRIT” and describes the work as “assisting in the raising of human consciousness.”
EBA’s structure has strengths, above all a requirement to take three clients through ten sessions each. But the website contradicts itself on hours, requirements, and dates, and its FAQ calls Rebirthing “completely safe,” which no trauma-informed school should tell its students.
How the Training Works
EBA’s main training is the 200-hour Embodied Breathwork Practitioner certification, which runs over 12 months: six months of formal training, then six months of supervised integration and practice. It comes in two formats:
- Live online: a 12-place cohort starting February 16, 2027, with two three-hour calls a week in one of two time-zone “pods” through early July. Sessions are recorded and available for a year. Pre-recorded content opens in January.
- Bali: a 14-day live-in immersion in Ubud followed by online integration. The 2027 Bali dates are on a waitlist.
A Master Practitioner upgrade adds eight private sessions with a senior practitioner, more mentoring, and advanced modules including business, and certifies you to lead groups and retreats as well as one-to-one sessions. The full 400-hour pathway over two years adds the 150-hour Wild Love Breathwork & Leadership training (offered separately for women and men, built around what the school calls “Divine Love” and “orgasmic energy”) and a 100-hour apprenticeship.
Before you start, you need eight or ten Rebirthing-style sessions with a practitioner who has at least two years of experience. The site gives both numbers.
The 19 modules cover anatomy of breath, trauma and the nervous system, holding space for one-to-one clients, ethics, touch, inner child and parts work, and group sessions. They also include “The 9 Big Traumas of the Human Condition (As taught by Rebirthing Breathwork),” “Prosperity Consciousness,” and a bonus module on breathwork and plant medicine. The business module is only in the Master level.
Practice Requirements
The practitioner standards page lists what you need to certify at Level 1:
- Facilitate 30 breathwork sessions (three people, ten sessions each)
- Facilitate three peer sessions
- A 2,000-word written assessment and a 2,000-word ethics research paper
- Attend 95% of live lectures and calls
- Eight private sessions with a senior Embodied Breathwork facilitator
The 30-session requirement is the best part of this training. It matches what the AIR School of Breathwork and Clarity Breathwork ask for and is far more than most online certifications require.
The eight private sessions are where the site contradicts itself. The standards page lists them as a Level 1 requirement, while the online training page says the AU$5,500 Level 1 price “does not include the 8 private Embodied Breathwork sessions required for Master Level Certification.” Ask which applies to you, and what the sessions cost, before you pay.
Embodied Breath Academy Cost
The online practitioner training costs AU$5,500 (about $3,650, £2,700, or €3,150), charged in Australian dollars. The Master upgrade adds AU$3,900, for a total of AU$9,400 (about $6,200). Payment plans of four or six months are available. The Bali price is not published and is sent with the application form. Bali accommodation and food are extra.
All courses require a deposit that the site describes as “non-refundable, non exchangeable,” with no refund or exchange for a change of mind.
The school says it gives 5% of the course profits to Suicide Prevention Australia.
Accreditation
EBA is listed in the Global Professional Breathwork Alliance (GPBA) directory as a school offering 400 hours of training. GPBA recognition applies to the full two-year, 400-hour pathway, not the 200-hour certificate. The online training page says the 230-hour Master level “meets the requirements for recognition through the GPBA,” which does not fit the GPBA’s 400-hour standard. Our accreditation guide explains what the GPBA requires.
Things to Know
The safety wording is too casual. The FAQ answers “Is Rebirthing Breathwork Safe?” with “Yes. Generally speaking, Rebirthing Breathwork is completely safe, as it is just your breath,” before listing people who should not take part. Connected breathing can bring up intense physical and emotional reactions, and a school that trains trauma-informed practitioners should not describe it as completely safe.
The website is inconsistent. Hours, prerequisites, certification requirements, and dates differ between pages, and the online training page lists “Excursions and cultural experiences in Bali” as part of the online intensive. Get the current requirements in writing.
No independent feedback. We found no reviews of the academy outside its own testimonials.
Pros and Cons
What works well
- Real client practice - 30 facilitated sessions with three clients, plus written assessments.
- GPBA-listed pathway - The full 400-hour route is recognized.
- Small cohorts - 12 places online, with live calls in two time zones.
- Published online price - AU$5,500 for the practitioner level.
What doesn't
- "Completely safe" claim - The FAQ downplays real risks.
- Contradictory pages - Hours, requirements, and dates do not match.
- Unclear extra costs - Private sessions and the Bali price are not clearly priced.
- No refunds - The deposit is non-refundable and non-transferable.
Embodied Breath Academy Market Comparisons
Embodied Breath Academy vs. AIR School of Breathwork
AIR is a two-year, 400-hour Rebirthing diploma for about £3,100 to £5,550, with GPBA recognition and 30 paid client sessions. Both sit in the Rebirthing lineage and both require substantial client work. Choose AIR for a longer track record and clearer, published requirements. Choose EBA for an online format in Asia-Pacific time zones or a Bali immersion.
Embodied Breath Academy vs. Clarity Breathwork
Clarity Breathwork evolved from Rebirthing and offers a GPBA-certified 400-hour path with 30 client sessions, mostly online, from $4,085 for Levels 1 to 4. Choose Clarity for a longer-established school with a mostly online path. Choose EBA if the somatic, sound-led, and openly spiritual approach appeals to you.
Embodied Breath Academy vs. Breathless Expeditions
Breathless Expeditions is an Australian option at A$3,997 for a 10-week live online training, with a money-back guarantee. Choose Breathless for a shorter, practical course with strong independent reviews. Choose EBA for a year-long Rebirthing-based training with a client-session requirement.
Who This Is For
- Rebirthing enthusiasts - You have done Rebirthing sessions and want to train in a nasal, somatic version of it.
- Asia-Pacific students - The online pods suit Australia, New Zealand, and Asia.
- Spiritually minded facilitators - You want breathwork framed as healing and awakening.
Who Should Pass
- Evidence-first buyers - See our functional breathing certifications.
- People who need clear terms up front - The requirements and costs vary between pages.
- Anyone who wants a refundable deposit - There are no refunds for a change of mind.
Embodied Breath Academy Verdict
The Embodied Breath Academy has the bones of a solid training: a year-long structure, small cohorts, written assessments, a GPBA-listed 400-hour pathway, and a requirement to take three clients through ten sessions each. That last point puts it ahead of most online certifications at this price.
The execution is the problem. The website contradicts itself on what you need to certify and what it costs, the Bali price is hidden behind an application, and the FAQ tells prospective students that Rebirthing is “completely safe.” For a school that sells itself as trauma-informed, that line matters.
Bottom line: Worth a look if you want a spiritual, Rebirthing-based training with a client-practice requirement, especially from Australia or Asia. Get the full requirements and every cost in writing before you pay a non-refundable deposit.
