Seven Directions Breathwork Training Review (2026)
Seven Directions review. Steph Magenta's GPBA-accredited 400-hour facilitator training, online with UK weekends in Glastonbury, the real cost, and verdict.
Seven Directions® Breathwork is a breathwork school founded by Steph Magenta, who is based in Glastonbury in the UK. Magenta trained and taught with Alchemy of Breath, is an Oxygen Advantage Advanced Instructor, and has trained in TRE, the Wheel of Consent, and Authentic Relating. She also co-founded Integrative Breath, which we have reviewed separately. She is open about a past of addiction and recovery, which she says shaped her path into this work, and she has led free weekly online breathwork sessions for eight years.
The training teaches conscious connected breathing within what the school calls a “sacred framework” rooted in “earth-based animist wisdom traditions,” with monthly ceremonies and teaching from indigenous wisdom keepers. It also says plainly that “this is not a shamanic training.” Alongside the ceremony sits a serious professional curriculum, including functional breathing taught by Patrick McKeown, the founder of Oxygen Advantage.
In our assessment, this is one of the most rigorous small-school trainings available in English, with a guest faculty few schools can match and clear rules on ethics and consent. It suits people who want the spiritual side as much as the professional one. Budget for the extras, which add about £850 to the headline price.
How the Training Works
Seven Directions runs its 400-hour, 10-month certification in several formats:
- International cohort with Steph Magenta: live online classes on Tuesdays, 6 to 8:30pm UK time, starting April 6, 2027, with graduation in Glastonbury in February 2028
- North American cohort, led by Rebecca Llewellyn of Divine Roots, graduating in Ontario
- European daytime cohort, led by Ali Gilling of Medicine of Breath
- A new in-person 12-month program with Magenta in Glastonbury from summer 2027, for up to 10 students
- A one-to-one pathway with a senior trainer, starting any time
All formats follow the same curriculum. It covers safe facilitation of conscious connected breathing, contraindications and abreactions, nervous system regulation, complex trauma (taught by Somatic Experiencing practitioner Jennifer McKeever), functional breathing (Patrick McKeown), anatomy and fascia, professional ethics and consent, scope of practice and referrals, cultural appropriation, the ethical use of touch, ritual and ceremony, and brand and business building.
Requirements to Graduate
Between classes, students are expected to:
- Read three core books and work through The Presence Process
- Keep a regular breathwork practice and journal
- Keep written records of one-to-one and group case-study sessions, with self-reflection
- Complete four 90-minute mentor sessions
- Attend the mid-way in-person weekend (remote attendance is allowed only where long-distance travel is a barrier)
- Attend a final in-person graduation practicum
- Submit all coursework within two months of finishing
The required number of case-study sessions is not stated on the site, so ask for it. The in-person graduation practicum is a strength: every graduate completes their final practicum in the room, not on a screen.
Graduates are automatically eligible for the GPBA’s “ethically compliant facilitator” listing. That is the GPBA’s entry-level listing; its “certified professional practitioner” level requires 400 hours over at least two years.
Seven Directions Cost
| Item | Cost |
|---|---|
| Tuition, international cohort | £3,600 (£3,000 early bird by February 28, 2027) |
| Four required mentor sessions | £400 |
| Mid-way in-person weekend | £150 + travel and accommodation |
| Graduation practicum | £300 + travel and accommodation |
| Total before travel | About £4,450 (£3,850 early bird) |
That is about $5,950 or EUR 5,100 at the standard price. Paying in full in advance takes a further 10% off tuition on undiscounted places, and payment plans can run for up to 18 months. A limited number of places for Global Majority and other historically excluded students cost £2,100 in tuition. The one-to-one pathway costs £4,400 with a senior trainer or £5,050 with Magenta, plus the in-person fees.
The £400 deposit is non-refundable. You can get a refund on other advance payments if you give two months’ notice before the start, minus a £200 administration fee. After the first two modules, all fees remain due.
Accreditation
Seven Directions is listed in the GPBA directory as a certified school and is an organizational member of the International Breathwork Foundation (IBF) and Breathwork UK. That is solid recognition for a small school. See our accreditation guide for what each body checks.
We found no independent reviews of the training outside the school’s own testimonials.
Pros and Cons
What works well
- Exceptional guest faculty - Patrick McKeown on functional breathing, an SE practitioner on trauma, consent and ethics specialists.
- Required in-person practicum - Every graduate completes a final practicum in person.
- Strong ethics framework - Consent, scope of practice, and cultural appropriation are taught directly.
- GPBA and IBF recognition - Plus membership of Breathwork UK.
What doesn't
- Extras add up - About £850 in required fees on top of tuition, plus travel.
- Case-study count not published - Ask how many sessions you need to log.
- Strongly spiritual - Ceremony and animist teachings are central, which will not suit everyone.
- Strict refund terms - All fees are due after the first two modules.
Seven Directions Market Comparisons
Seven Directions vs. Integrative Breath
Integrative Breath, which Magenta co-founded, is a small, mentored, GPBA-certified training for $4,000 tuition, mostly online with a seven-day retreat in Colorado. Choose Integrative Breath for a US-based program with a residential week. Choose Seven Directions for UK and European time zones, two in-person weekends, and a more ceremonial approach.
Seven Directions vs. Alchemy of Breath
Alchemy of Breath, where Magenta trained and taught, is a roughly 400-hour hybrid program for $7,200, ending with a residential week in Tuscany. Choose Alchemy of Breath for a larger international brand. Choose Seven Directions for a lower price, a stronger ethics and consent curriculum, and smaller cohorts.
Seven Directions vs. Shamanic Breathwork
Shamanic Breathwork is an explicitly shamanic method taught in two 14-day in-person trainings for about $5,000 to $7,800 plus travel. Choose Shamanic Breathwork if you want a fully shamanic, retreat-based training. Choose Seven Directions if you want ceremony alongside a professional curriculum you can mostly study from home.
Who This Is For
- Spiritually minded professionals - You want ceremony and a rigorous professional curriculum together.
- Therapists, coaches, and bodyworkers - You want a GPBA-recognized way to add breathwork to your work.
- People outside the UK - North American and European cohorts follow the same curriculum.
Who Should Pass
- Secular or evidence-first buyers - See our functional breathing certifications.
- Anyone who cannot travel to the UK - The graduation practicum is in person.
- People on a tight budget - Look at other options in our UK training guide.
Seven Directions Verdict
Seven Directions combines two things that rarely sit together: a professional curriculum with specialist teachers in functional breathing, trauma, consent, and ethics, and a ceremonial, earth-based spirituality at its core. GPBA and IBF recognition, a required in-person practicum, and a founder with long experience across several breathwork lineages make it one of the stronger small-school options in English.
Go in with the full cost in mind, about £4,450 before travel, and ask how many case-study sessions you will need to log. If the spiritual framing does not appeal, there are more secular trainings at a similar price.
Bottom line: A rigorous choice for people who want breathwork taught as both a professional skill and a sacred practice. Not the right fit if you want a purely secular or science-led training.
