Owaken Breathwork was founded in 2017 by Hella Omega and Lukis Mac. It is best known for its breathwork events and its on-demand breathwork app, and it runs a facilitator training it calls a 12-month trauma-informed breathwork certification. Owaken sessions guide people into what the founders describe as non-ordinary states of consciousness to release suppressed emotions, trauma, and energy. On their about page, the founders write that they have “breathed our way through past lives to access ancient memories.”

The facilitator training used to be taught live. It is now an on-demand, self-paced program, and that change is the most important thing to understand before you buy it.

Our assessment: the curriculum is broad and the founders clearly have experience running large breathwork events. But at $6,000 paid upfront, with no live calls, no community, no mentoring, and no stated requirement to practise on real clients under supervision, it is one of the weakest-value certifications we review.

What the Training Includes

The curriculum has 34 modules, released one per week. They cover facilitation and safe space, ethics, client assessment, somatic release, non-ordinary states, trauma and trauma-informed boundaries, the vagus nerve, two modules on mental health awareness, parts work, shadow work, healing touch, anatomy and physiology, peak performance breathwork, group facilitation, and the business of breathwork.

A large share is spiritual and energetic: intuitive development, “Working with Your Healing Temple,” energy systems, facilitating energy work, energy clearing, and advanced energy clearing. Owaken’s own FAQ says the training includes energy work and intuitive development, and that if you are “closed-minded to spirituality altogether,” it is probably not for you. That is a fair warning, and you should take it seriously.

Alongside the modules, you get recordings of 18 past group calls, each around 2.5 hours, and a digital course manual. The page describes the video library as both “over 200+ video lessons” and “over 160 video lessons,” and an older Owaken course page describes the program as a nine-month certification, so expect some inconsistency in the materials.

What the Training Does Not Include

Owaken is direct about this in its FAQ, which is to its credit:

  • No live calls. “There are no live calls and instead you will have access to a series of bi-weekly call recordings.”
  • No community. The lower price is explained by the fact that “there are no longer live calls or an online community component. This is an independent online learning experience.”
  • No mentoring. “We do not offer coaching or additional private mentoring calls,” though you can email the team with questions.
  • No job. “We do not offer facilitator employment within Owaken following this training.”

To graduate, you complete all required modules and weekly assignments and “participate consistently.” The page does not mention supervised client sessions, case studies, observed facilitation, or an exam.

That is the core problem. Breathwork facilitation, and trauma-informed facilitation in particular, is a practical skill. Good trainings make you practise on real people while someone experienced watches and gives feedback. Transformational Breath requires 40 documented sessions, the AIR School of Breathwork requires 30 paid client sessions, and even many cheaper online programs include live feedback. Owaken’s on-demand training, as described, includes none of this.

Owaken Cost

The on-demand training costs $6,000 USD, paid in full. There are no payment plans: the FAQ says that because you get access to the whole course immediately, full payment is required upfront. That is about £4,500 or €5,150.

Owaken frames this as a saving of $3,000 against the previous live version, which puts the live training at about $9,000. The FAQ also says enrollment “is open for a very limited time,” a scarcity line that is common in this industry. Apply only if you would buy it with no deadline.

We found no ongoing fee after certification and no published refund policy on the training page. Ask about refunds in writing before you pay. For comparison across programs, see our breathwork training cost breakdown.

Accreditation and Evidence

The training page does not claim accreditation from the GPBA, IPHM, or any other outside body. That does not make it worthless, but it means the certificate’s value rests on the Owaken name alone. Our accreditation guide explains what the main credentials mean.

There is no research on Owaken as a method. The connected breathing it uses is part of a research area that is still early, and its spiritual framework (past lives, energy clearing, the healing temple) has no scientific support. See our research by method guide.

Community Feedback

We found no independent reviews of the facilitator training on Reddit, Trustpilot, or similar sites. Owaken runs a facilitator directory, and several listed facilitators also hold other certifications, which is common. If you are considering the training, contact two or three graduates directly.

Pros and Cons

What works well

  • Broad curriculum - 34 modules covering facilitation, trauma, mental health awareness, groups, and business.
  • Clear about its limits - The FAQ says plainly that there are no live calls, community, or mentoring.
  • Self-paced - Start any time and move at your own speed.
  • Experienced founders - Hella and Lukis have run Owaken's events since 2017.

What doesn't

  • No supervised practice - No stated requirement to facilitate real clients with feedback.
  • Poor value - $6,000 for recorded content, paid upfront with no plan.
  • No outside accreditation - The certificate rests on the Owaken brand alone.
  • Heavily spiritual - Energy clearing, intuition, and past-life ideas are part of the core.

Owaken Market Comparisons

Owaken vs. PAUSE Breathwork

PAUSE costs $4,000 to $6,000 for a six-month online certification in trauma-informed conscious connected breathing, with live mentorship and practice sessions with feedback. It is less spiritual and includes the live elements Owaken has removed. Choose PAUSE if you want live teaching and feedback at a similar or lower price. Choose Owaken only if its energy-work curriculum is specifically what you want and you are comfortable learning alone.

Owaken vs. ReWild Breathwork

ReWild offers a $497 trauma-aware functional certification and a 200-hour trauma-informed somatic practitioner training with supervised facilitation practice and IPHM accreditation. It covers much of the same trauma-informed ground for a fraction of the cost. Choose ReWild for value and supervised practice. Choose Owaken if the spiritual and energetic content matters more to you than cost.

Owaken vs. InnerCamp

InnerCamp is another online, multi-modality training with a spiritual streak, at €2,250 to €3,900 over about four months. Both cover a wide range of material. InnerCamp costs considerably less. Choose InnerCamp for a cheaper broad online program. Choose Owaken if you specifically want its founders’ approach to energy work.

Who This Is For

  • Existing Owaken fans - You have practised with Owaken's events or app and want to go deeper into their approach.
  • Experienced facilitators - You already have supervised practice behind you and want new spiritual and energetic material.
  • Independent learners - You can work through a year of video content without live support.

Who Should Pass

  • Beginners - Without supervised practice, you will not get the feedback new facilitators need.
  • Budget-conscious students - Similar or better trainings with live support cost less.
  • Evidence-first or secular learners - Energy clearing and intuitive development are central.

Owaken Verdict

Owaken has built a real brand through its events and app, and its curriculum covers a lot of ground. But the facilitator training, in its current on-demand form, is mostly a video library: no live calls, no community, no mentoring, and no stated supervised practice, for $6,000 paid upfront.

For people learning to facilitate trauma-informed breathwork, the missing piece is the most important one. You need to practise on real people and get feedback from someone experienced. Programs that include that, from PAUSE to ReWild to the AIR School, cost the same or less.

Bottom line: Only worth considering if you already know and love Owaken’s approach, have facilitation experience from elsewhere, and want its spiritual and energetic content. For most people starting out, there are better-value options with live teaching and supervised practice.
