Breath Mastery is the training program of Dan Brulé, one of the longest-standing teachers in Western breathwork. His site says he was among the original group of internationally certified rebirthers, trained extensively in Prana Yoga and Qigong, and has taught breathwork for more than five decades. He is the author of Just Breathe, and his students have included Tony Robbins, who endorsed the book.

Brulé calls his approach Spiritual Breathing, and it is broader than most single-method schools. The practitioner program teaches conscious connected breathing alongside techniques from other traditions, including coherent breathing, box breathing, Zen breathing, and an overview of methods like Holotropic Breathwork and the Wim Hof Method.

Where we land: this is a credible, demanding certification from a teacher with genuine depth, and it publishes its price and requirements clearly. The question is value. At $7,560 it is among the more expensive programs we review, and most of it is home study and calls.

How the Program Works

The Breath Mastery Practitioner Certification is designed to take about a year. The site says it can be shortened to around six months with prior training or stretched to two years. The format is mostly distance learning: home study through Brulé’s Legacy Collection of recorded courses, monthly webinars, weekly coaching calls, and peer mentoring. One full week of live, in-person training with Brulé is required.

To certify, you must:

  1. Apply and have a welcome call with Brulé
  2. Keep a daily journal for at least 180 days
  3. Complete home study through the Legacy Collection
  4. Attend or review the weekly practitioner coaching calls
  5. Meet a peer mentor at least twice a month
  6. Receive at least 10 personal conscious connected breathing sessions from an approved breathworker
  7. Facilitate at least 25 one-to-one client sessions and submit client and sitter reports
  8. Attend one full week of in-person training with Brulé
  9. Pass a final program review and exam

Twenty-five reported client sessions plus a final exam is a real bar. It puts Breath Mastery in the same practice range as Transformational Breath (40 sessions) and the AIR School of Breathwork (30 paid sessions), and well above most online certifications.

The curriculum covers breath energy training, respiratory anatomy, facilitation and coaching, indications and contraindications, and a long list of techniques. Additional topics include working with grief and anger, addiction, and the business and marketing of breathwork. Including contraindications in the core modules is a good sign.

Breath Mastery Cost

The price is published:

Payment option Total
Single payment $7,560
Three payments of $2,600 $7,800
Six payments of $1,350 $8,100

That is roughly £5,650 or €6,500 for the single payment. Spreading it over six months adds $540.

Some costs are not included or not stated. The ten personal sessions with an approved breathworker are presumably paid to that breathworker, and the in-person week will involve travel and lodging, but the page does not give the location, dates, or what is covered. We found no published deposit or refund terms. We found no ongoing fee after certification, and the site says graduates keep their invitation to the weekly calls.

For comparison, see our breathwork training cost breakdown.

Accreditation and Evidence

Breath Mastery does not claim certification from an outside body. The page says the program meets the standards of One Sky International Breathwork Association and Rebirthing Breathwork International, and that it exceeds the minimums recommended by the International Breathwork Foundation and the Global Professional Breathwork Alliance. That is different from being listed by the GPBA as a certified school. If formal recognition matters to you, ask directly. Our accreditation guide explains the difference.

There is no research on Breath Mastery as a method. Some of the techniques it teaches, like slow coherent breathing, have good evidence behind them. Others, like conscious connected breathing, are still early in the research (see our research by method guide).

Community Feedback

We found no independent reviews of the practitioner program on Reddit, Trustpilot, or similar sites. Feedback on Brulé’s book is mostly positive, though one listener noted it is more a collection of practices from other traditions than a single new method, which is a fair description of the program too.

The reach figures on Brulé’s materials also vary. His site says he has trained more than 300,000 people in 73 countries since 1970, while another of his bios says 150,000 people in more than 60 countries. Neither number can be checked, and neither tells you much about the training.

Pros and Cons

What works well

  • Clear price and requirements - The full fee and every certification step are on one page.
  • Real client work - 25 client sessions with written reports, plus a final exam.
  • Breadth - Connected breathing plus slow, functional, and meditative techniques, with contraindications in the core.
  • Teacher depth - Five decades of practice and a direct line to the early Rebirthing movement.

What doesn't

  • Expensive for the format - $7,560 for a program that is mostly home study and calls.
  • No outside certification - Claims to meet GPBA minimums but does not claim GPBA listing.
  • Unstated extras - Personal sessions, travel to the in-person week, and refund terms are not spelled out.
  • Founder-centred - The program is built around Brulé and his recorded material, so it suits you only if his approach does.

Breath Mastery Market Comparisons

Breath Mastery vs. Transformational Breath

Both trace back to the early Rebirthing movement and both require substantial supervised practice. Transformational Breath costs about $5,450 for one-to-one certification, is GPBA-recognized, and teaches a single method with hands-on Bodymapping. Breath Mastery costs more and teaches a wider toolkit. Choose Transformational Breath for a lower price and GPBA recognition. Choose Breath Mastery for breadth across techniques and direct access to a founder.

Breath Mastery vs. Language of Breath

Language of Breath costs $6,200 for a roughly six-month hybrid program with a mandatory in-person practicum, plus $350 a year for its Collective. Both are founder-led, framework-focused, and combine online learning with in-person time. Language of Breath is cheaper upfront and more physiology-led. Breath Mastery is more spiritual and has no ongoing fee. Choose Language of Breath for a shorter path and a science-forward framework. Choose Breath Mastery for a spiritual approach without annual fees.

Breath Mastery vs. Alchemy of Breath

Alchemy of Breath costs $5,800 to $6,900 for 400+ hours with shadow work and a residential in Tuscany. It is a larger school with a bigger community. Breath Mastery is more expensive, more self-directed, and broader in technique. Choose Alchemy for more structured group training and a residential. Choose Breath Mastery if you want to study across many methods with a single senior teacher.

Who This Is For

  • Self-directed learners - You can sustain a year of home study, journaling, and calls.
  • Toolkit builders - You want many techniques, not one branded method.
  • People who value lineage - Learning from a teacher with five decades in the field matters to you.

Who Should Pass

  • Budget-conscious students - Similar practice requirements are available for less elsewhere.
  • People who need formal recognition - Look for a GPBA-listed program instead.
  • Evidence-first professionals - See our functional breathing certifications.

Breath Mastery Verdict

Breath Mastery is a genuine practitioner training, not a weekend certificate. It asks for a year of practice, 25 client sessions with reports, personal sessions, mentoring, an in-person week, and an exam, and it tells you all of that upfront along with the price. Dan Brulé’s depth in the field is real.

The weak point is value. At $7,560, you are paying a premium mainly for access to Brulé and his recorded material, in a program that is largely home study. Programs with GPBA recognition and similar practice requirements cost less, and the extra costs here (personal sessions, the in-person week’s travel) are not spelled out.

Bottom line: A strong choice if you specifically want to learn from Dan Brulé and build a broad breathwork toolkit, and the price is not a barrier. If you mainly want a credible certification with real client practice, compare it with Transformational Breath, AIR, and Clarity first.
