Breath of Gold is a trauma-informed breathwork facilitator certification founded by Adrienne Rivera, a psychology graduate turned fitness coach turned breathwork educator based in Reno, Nevada. It is an online, self-paced program with live calls, built mainly around conscious connected breathing. Breath of Gold told us in October 2026 that it costs $6,000 for more than 100 hours of training, and recommends taking about six months.

Its standout feature is continuing education approval. Breath of Gold is approved by Yoga Alliance, NASM, and AFAA, and lists recognition from IPHM, FHT (UK), and Boston College School of Social Work. NASM and AFAA approval is unusual in breathwork. If you’re a personal trainer, group fitness instructor, or sports coach, this is one of the few breathwork certifications your existing professional body will count. (These are continuing education approvals. Our accreditation guide explains how they differ from breathwork standards.)

Pros and Cons

What works well

  • Broad CE approval - Yoga Alliance (100 hours), NASM, and AFAA, plus FHT and IPHM. The fitness credentials open doors other breathwork certifications don't.
  • Live calls every week - Two 90-minute Zoom calls a week, recorded if you miss them.
  • Trauma-informed structure - Guest modules from a medical doctor, a therapist, a paramedic, and a neuroscience specialist. Covers contraindications and scope of practice.
  • A real practical test - You lead eight breathwork journeys and pass a one-to-one and a group test-out, plus a written exam.

What doesn't

  • No published price - The site says pricing is set on a call and "can vary based on different promotions."
  • No refunds - The school has a no-refund, no-cancellation policy.
  • Low brand recognition - Newer program without the market awareness of Wim Hof, SOMA, or PAUSE. Your clients won't recognize the name.
  • Shorter than practitioner paths - About 100 hours, against 400 or more at Alchemy of Breath or two to three years at Holotropic.

The Methodology

The core of the training is circular connected breathing (continuous inhale and exhale without pause), the same foundation used by PAUSE Breathwork, Alchemy of Breath, Rebirthing, and Clarity Breathwork. Breath of Gold says nine of its twelve modules cover what you need to facilitate it in a trauma-informed way: breathing mechanics, the nervous system, a module on breathwork research, facilitation (touch, music, scripting, difficult situations), coaching, and the business side.

Two modules give an overview of other approaches. They cover modern styles such as Holotropic Breathwork, Rebirthing, the Wim Hof Method, and Buteyko, and the site lists 19 pranayama techniques. That gives you context for the wider field, but you graduate as a conscious connected breathing facilitator, not a specialist in those other methods.

The trauma-informed framing runs through the curriculum: nervous system regulation, recognizing dissociation, contraindication screening, scope of practice, and knowing when to refer someone to a therapist. Guest teachers include a medical doctor for the anatomy and science modules, a therapist for the trauma-informed module, a paramedic on contraindications and safety, a neuroscience specialist, and a lawyer on contracts.

How the Training Works

The lessons are pre-recorded and self-paced. Alongside them, there are two optional 90-minute live calls a week on Zoom (Thursday evening and Friday morning, Pacific time). They go deeper into the modules, give you time to practice, and bring in guest experts. The school recommends attending at least two a month, and every call is recorded.

Breath of Gold recommends finishing in about six months. Its website also mentions graduating in four months, and says most people take 8 to 16 weeks, so the pace is up to you.

To certify, you lead eight breathwork journeys, pass a one-to-one and a group test-out, and pass a 50-question exam. The test-outs are submitted online. You need to be 18 or older and have done some inner work of your own. Familiarity with conscious connected breathing helps but isn’t required.

There is also an optional in-person retreat at the founder’s home in Reno. The October 2026 retreat ran four days with meals included, and covered hands-on touch, co-leading journeys, and one-to-one practice with feedback from Rivera. Lodging and travel are extra, the price is on request, and the retreat doesn’t replace the online program.

Breath of Gold Cost and What’s Included

Breath of Gold told us the program costs $6,000. The website doesn’t publish a price. It says the rate is set on an application call and can vary with promotions, so ask what is on offer when you speak to them. Payment plans are available, and the school offers scholarships for students in Colombia, Mexico, Ecuador, and Malaysia.

What you get, by the school’s breakdown:

  • 45+ hours of pre-recorded lessons on trauma-informed circular connected breathing, plus 20+ hours on other styles of breathwork
  • About 36 hours of live training over 24 weeks
  • 36 hours of structured personal practice
  • Test-out and assessment sessions
  • 25+ recorded breathwork journeys (lifetime access)
  • Four months free in the Breath of Gold membership (a weekly live breathwork class and a library of 200+ recorded sessions), then 50% off for students
  • Accountability buddy pairing
  • Student support coordinators

The website’s own figures vary (84 or 100 training hours, 14 or 24 hours of video), so ask for the current syllabus before you enroll.

What you don’t get:

  • In-person training as standard (the Reno retreat is an optional add-on at extra cost)
  • A brand that clients recognize on its own
  • Research on the program itself. The course teaches existing breathwork research, but no published study has tested Breath of Gold’s training or its outcomes. That is true of almost every program we review.

Hidden costs:

  • Liability insurance: $50-$170/year
  • Marketing and website: $200-$600/year
  • The membership after the free months: it normally costs $97 a month, so about $49 a month at the student rate (optional, but encouraged for ongoing practice)

Realistic first-year total: about $6,250-$7,150

The Founder

Adrienne Rivera holds a psychology degree from Virginia Tech. She started as an online fitness coach, helping women with weight loss, before finding that breathwork techniques were producing deeper results than the fitness work alone. She moved fully into breathwork, founded Breath of Gold, and built it into a certification program with continuing education approvals in several countries.

She delivered a TEDx talk (“Our Breath: The Key to Innovation”) in 2023 and published “Breath of Gold: Stories of Healing and Awakening Through Breathwork,” a collection of graduate transformation stories.

Her endorsements include John Assaraf (NeuroGym founder, known from The Secret), which places her in the personal development world rather than the clinical or scientific community. Keep that in mind if you need the program to carry weight in therapeutic or clinical settings.

The program is founder-led: Rivera teaches the live sessions and shapes the curriculum. That’s common in breathwork (Alchemy of Breath is similarly built around Anthony Abbagnano, PAUSE around Samantha Skelly). The upside is direct access to the creator. The downside is that the brand depends on her.

The Accreditation Question

Few breathwork certifications carry continuing education approval from fitness bodies. Breath of Gold’s approvals are:

  • Yoga Alliance: 100 continuing education hours
  • NASM: 1.9 CEUs
  • AFAA: 15 CEUs
  • FHT (UK) and IPHM: recognition from two holistic therapy bodies

That means personal trainers and group fitness instructors can count the training toward their continuing education, and gym and studio owners see credentials they already trust. If you’re a fitness professional adding breathwork to your work, this solves a real problem.

The site also lists Boston College School of Social Work, without details. Schools of social work usually approve continuing education hours for social workers rather than accredit programs, so if you’re a social worker, ask what it covers and whether your licensing board accepts it.

Continuing education approval isn’t the same as depth. The approvals open doors. What you do once you’re through them depends on the training itself.

Breath of Gold vs. Similar Programs

Breath of Gold vs. PAUSE Breathwork ($4,000-$6,000)

Both teach conscious connected breathing with a trauma-informed framing over about six months, and neither publishes its price. PAUSE has stronger brand recognition and a larger graduate network (about 1,000 facilitators) and is built around Samantha Skelly’s influencer brand. Breath of Gold has fitness and yoga CE approvals. Choose Breath of Gold if you’re a fitness professional. Choose PAUSE for a bigger alumni network.

Breath of Gold vs. Alchemy of Breath ($7,200)

Alchemy runs about 400 hours over eight months, finished with a residential week in Tuscany. It costs more, takes more time, and goes much deeper into personal process and shadow work. Breath of Gold is fully online unless you add the retreat, shorter, and $1,200 cheaper. Choose Breath of Gold for a solid online certification with CE credits. Choose Alchemy if breathwork is your main career path and you want the deepest training on this list.

Breath of Gold vs. SOMA Breath ($497-$6,497)

SOMA’s $497 Facilitator Program is far cheaper and faster, though it only covers leading SOMA’s ready-made journeys. Its full Instructor Certification costs $4,497. You get music-driven session templates, pre-made protocols, and a large global community. SOMA is more commercially focused, while Breath of Gold goes further on trauma-informed facilitation. Choose SOMA if budget or a ready-made system matters most. Choose Breath of Gold for trauma-informed depth and fitness credentials.

Breath of Gold vs. Oxygen Advantage (€449-€995)

Oxygen Advantage is functional breathing first: nasal breathing, CO2 tolerance, and measurable metrics, with no emotional release work. Breath of Gold covers the therapeutic and transformational end. If you’re a fitness professional, the two complement each other: Oxygen Advantage for performance, Breath of Gold for the somatic and emotional side.

Who This Is For

  • Fitness professionals - Personal trainers, group fitness instructors, and coaches who want breathwork credentials their industry recognizes
  • Yoga teachers - The training counts for 100 Yoga Alliance continuing education hours
  • Career changers - People moving from fitness or coaching into breathwork who want a structured path with a practical test
  • Online-first facilitators - If you plan to teach breathwork online, the format matches how you'll work

Who Should Pass

  • Brand-driven facilitators - If you need a name clients recognize on its own, Wim Hof or Holotropic carry more weight
  • Deep therapeutic work - At about 100 hours and online, this doesn't match the depth of Alchemy of Breath or Holotropic
  • Science-only practitioners - For measurable metrics without the somatic layer, Oxygen Advantage fits better at a fraction of the cost
  • Budget-conscious learners - At $6,000 with no refunds, SOMA's entry tier or Oxygen Advantage get you certified for much less

Final Verdict

Breath of Gold is a well-structured, trauma-informed certification in conscious connected breathing, and it stands out for one clear reason: continuing education approval. The NASM and AFAA credits make it the most practical choice for fitness professionals adding breathwork, and the 100 Yoga Alliance hours suit yoga teachers. Two weekly live calls, guest experts, and a practical test with eight led journeys are solid for an online program.

The limits are real too. The price isn’t published and varies with promotions, there are no refunds, and the brand is young and built around its founder. At about $6,000 for 100 hours online, you’re paying for continuing education credits and live teaching, not for the depth of an Alchemy of Breath or Holotropic program.

Bottom line: If you’re a fitness professional, yoga teacher, or coach who needs credentials that count across wellness and fitness, Breath of Gold fills a gap other breathwork programs don’t. If continuing education credits don’t matter to your career, there are both cheaper and deeper alternatives.
